5 Day Devotional

This five-day devotional will be taking a deeper dive into the sermon from this weekend, focusing on a life of surrender to God and what it means to truly give over our will in exchange for His divine purpose and plan.

Rewatch the Sermon: "I Surrender All" - Pastor Broderick Santiago

Day 1

Proverbs 3:5-6

In these verses, we are reminded to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding. Surrender begins with trust, acknowledging that God's wisdom far exceeds our own.

When we surrender our plans, we submit to God's direction and leading, even when it contradicts our logic. It's a transformative willingness to follow the path He has laid out for us, a road that leads to true fulfillment and purpose beyond our imagination.

  • What area of your life is most difficult to surrender to God?
  • How does it feel to acknowledge that God's understanding surpasses your own?
  • In what ways can you practice trusting in God's plans over yours this week?
  • Pray for the courage to trust in God's plan over your personal desires.
  • Reflect on the peace that comes with surrendering your understanding to the Lord.

Day 2

Matthew 16:24-25

To follow Jesus is to take up our cross — embracing a life that prioritizes His will over ours. Surrender is not a passive act but an active commitment to forsake our comfort for His cause.

This may mean making personal sacrifices in how we live and what we value, echoing Christ's example of selflessness and service. It's in this that we find the essence of discipleship—a journey marked by humility and spurred by love.

  • What does 'taking up your cross' mean to you in a practical sense?
  • What comfort might you need to sacrifice to live in deeper alignment with God's will?
  • Reflect on a time when selflessness led to a deeper sense of purpose in your life.
  • Ask God to reveal areas of your life where you may be prioritizing comfort over commitment.
  • Seek strength to endure the discomfort that comes with true discipleship.

Day 3

James 4:7-8

In surrendering, we are called to submit ourselves before God, resisting the devil who promises false security in worldly attachments. As we draw near to God, He draws near to us, purifying our hearts and renewing our spirit.

The purity of our surrender is not in the absence of struggle but in the presence of a relentless pursuit of God amid the turmoil. This submission birthers a holy intimacy — a sacred space where we experience His presence more deeply.

  • What worldly attachments are you struggling to surrender to God?
  • Discuss the connection between drawing near to God and experiencing greater spiritual purity.
  • How can you actively resist worldly temptations to maintain your surrender to God?
  • Pray for a renewed spirit that desires closeness with God over everything else.
  • Pray for the resolve to resist the devil and the false promises that entice you away from God's path.

Day 4

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

God's grace is made perfect in our weakness. When we surrender our capabilities and acknowledge our limitations, we become a canvas for His strength to be displayed.

It is in our surrender that we truly experience the sufficiency of God's grace. Rather than relying on our own abilities, we open ourselves up to the empowering presence of God that enables us to do what we could never do alone.

  • Identify a situation where you feel weak and in need of God's strength.
  • How does acknowledging your weaknesses make room for God's power in your life?
  • In what ways can you celebrate God's grace as you experience vulnerability?
  • Pray for the humility to embrace your weaknesses and to witness God's power through them.
  • Thank God for His grace that covers every shortfall and equips you for every challenge.

Day 5

Luke 9:23-24

To follow Christ is to daily lay down our agendas, desires, and dreams. It's a consistent choice to decline self-promotion and embrace a lifestyle rooted in service and sacrifice.

Each day presents fresh opportunities to embody the essence of surrender. By choosing God's agenda over our own, we experience the paradox of the gospel: in losing our life for His sake, we find it.

  • What aspects of your life do you find challenging to surrender each day?
  • How can daily surrendering change your perspective on life and its purpose?
  • Identify one way you can practice laying down your life in the coming week.
  • Pray for the daily discipline to choose God's will and the grace to persevere in it.
  • Commit to a specific action that will help you practice surrender this week and ask God to help you fulfill it.
