Know God
The Bible, a collection of ancient writings, introduces Jesus in a powerful way. The book of Matthew, for instance, shows Jesus as the continuation and fulfillment of a long story about God and humanity. What's amazing is that Jesus didn't stay in a separate, "holy" place. He went out into the world, spending time with people who were often overlooked, healing their sicknesses and forgiving their sins. He was creating little pieces of heaven right here on earth.
John the Baptist recognized Jesus as "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world". This points to the idea that Jesus' death on the cross wasn't just a tragic event. It was a sacrifice that had the power to deal with the fundamental problem of sin, creating a way for more and more of heaven to be reunited with earth.
Jesus taught his followers to pray a simple prayer, often called the Lord's Prayer. This prayer includes a request to "forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven those indebted to us". Jesus made forgiveness central to his message, announcing that God was forgiving humanity. He called his followers to do the same – to forgive those who hurt them.
Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday because it confirms his victory over death and the promise of new life for all believers. The gospel accounts record how Jesus rose from the dead, appearing to his disciples and many others, thus affirming his teachings and the hope he offers. In his letters, Paul highlights the significance of these witnessed events, noting that multiple witnesses confirmed the resurrection and serve as the foundation of the Christian faith. Easter is a time to remember and honor this miraculous event, which assures us that the power of Christ brings renewal and transformation to our lives.
